The Birthday C(r)ap..
It was a birthday party next door, “Family Friends” …the phrase itself implied a degree of belongingness for me.. Everyone was being treated for they were friends with atleast one member of their family…on the contrary, I was being celebrated for my sheer contrast . I was not friends with any of them.
It was my sister’s friend’s birthday, My Mom’s friend’s daughter’s fifteenth birthday, My Dad’s brother’s friend’s daughter’s birthday and I couldnt be more related. MY presence would have brought the sheer delight into their lives.
Enter the lobby and you and over a 1000 “namastes”…but still I am looked with a disapproval coz..I didnt touch the feet!! HA….the culture crap I am given every second day.
It was not first time, I was made to attend their birthday parties, wedding receptions…I occasionally dropped at the bhajans and kirtans at their place….coz…lets face it…mom wont make dinner that night. Call it gate crashing or whatever..I never was ashamed of being brutally honest…I alway rang the bell at dinner time…I always tell them that I am here for my share of cake.then the dinner….I always find myself trapped in the room full of noisy kids screaming and yelling at each other…garuulous neighbours gossipping, a bunch of people going over and who’s who of the party adn all of it. I wait till sweet dish is being served..and then..important work rescues me.
Such parties….. where…parents make their shy bunty sing Jack and Jill out loud…. And when finally jill comes tumbling after…the wide eyed bunch of hungry guests are all in praise….though cant speak a word coz the half chewed samosa would come rolling down their fancy dresses…but still they do.
Be with ones you love….and admire…..adn enjoy. This preposterous display of the diamond earrings you bought …..is beyond my level of understanding.
Why so flashy son?
